Self Amalgamating Tapes

Self amalgamating tapes are a non-tacky silicone-rubber tape that bonds to itself when stretched and wrapped around an area where it is being used. It fuses into itself to form a strong, seamless, rubbery and waterproof layer - it is also electrically insulating.
It is an excellent tape for repairing leaks in pipes and hoses. It has a high level of waterproofness, whilst the lack of glue means it is unlikely to fail. This lack of glue also makes this tape easy to clean or remove from the area in which it has been used, simply by cutting it away.
It is also used on some sail boats to wrap up rigging screws, helping to secure them as well as prevent snags and tears. It is also occasionally used on other parts of the rig to help protect sails and running rigging catching on sharp edges.
