Ball valves help to control the flow of liquids or gasses, they do this using a ball or sphere within the mechanism which has a hole in it. The ball is rotated to open or closed by a handle on the valve.
You can tell when a ball valve is open or closed position as the valve handle will be aligned to the mechanism or pipes to which is attached when open, and closed when perpendicular to them. This makes it easy to tell whether it is open or closed, or even somewhere between just by looking at it.
Fitting a seacock or ball valve to a skin fitting that sits below the waterline is important as it allows you to close it and preventing outside water flowing up into them. It can also be your first line of defence if a pipe fails to close off the hole from your skin fitting to the boat.
We stock many types of seacock and ball valve in a variety of different materials - brass, bronze, DZR fittings (dezincification resistant), composite and more. It is important to match your valve material to that of your skin fitting to help improve corrosion resistance. Dissimilar metals can react and corrode a lot faster.
